In a media launch, Manitoba RCMP stated “On June 15, 2023, at roughly 11:40 am, Brandon RCMP responded to a motorized vehicle collision on the intersection of Freeway 1 and Freeway 5.

A semi-trailer was heading eastbound on Freeway 1 and a bus carrying quite a lot of senior residents from Dauphin was headed southbound on Freeway 5. The bus had already crossed the westbound lanes of Freeway 1 and was crossing the eastbound lanes when it was struck by the semi.

Instantly, it turned obvious that this was a mass casualty scenario and the RCMP deployed all accessible sources to the world which included, RCMP officers from throughout western Manitoba, Forensic Identification Providers and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.

Right now we are able to verify there have been 15 fatalities, and 10 folks taken to hospital with varied accidents.

Main Crime Providers has taken carriage of the investigation and is at present on scene.

A household help centre has been set-up in Dauphin within the basement of the Lutheran Church at 2 Kirby Avenue East. We’ve officers there who can reply questions for households who’re involved.

Households also can name the help centre at 204-647-5058.

RCMP proceed to research and can present updates when potential.”
