Romeo & Juliet at The Dallas Opera

What an evening! Romeo & Juliet at The Dallas Opera was positively sensational. I can’t even think about somebody watching this manufacturing and never falling in love with opera; it was every part I would like an opera to be! You even get a little bit of ballet at first, which was a welcome shock.

The Vogue

I paired my favourite cozy tulip-shaped strapless black costume from J.Crew with my sparkly star capelet from Denova Lively and felt like 1,000,000 bucks. I opted for strappy black sandals and a black velvet bow clutch. My pal Kenya all the time seems to be like a imaginative and prescient! She went Barbie pink with fabulous jeweled earrings and essentially the most eye-catching floral heels.

The Dinner

It wouldn’t be Dinner & a Present with out mentioning dinner! For the primary time ever I opted for the Skyline Terrace buffet upstairs on the Winspear Opera Home. The menu adjustments seasonally and on this explicit evening, we ate a scrumptious Asian salad with edamame, mandarin oranges, and sesame French dressing, ahi tuna, tremendous gentle rolls, tender Hawaiian steak with grilled pineapple, whipped wasabi mashed potatoes, blended veggies, and chocolate cake. At solely $35, it was a heck of a deal and the meals was scrumptious!

The Present

Although I’m extraordinarily effectively acquainted with the Shakespeare story – take a look at my Romeo & Juliet-inspired dinner right here – I had by no means seen the opera earlier than final evening. Romeo & Juliet the opera initially premiered in 1867 in Paris, France and follows the very same story everyone knows and love, although is probably a bit simpler to observe than the play and the music is beautiful. The Dallas Opera’s distinctive solid performed it as extra of a romantic comedy than a tragedy, which I completely cherished.

Golda Schultz lit up the stage as Juliet. I swear, she’s the very best Juliet I’ve ever seen. She introduced a light-hearted playfulness to to a usually fairly naive and albeit boring character. Not Golda’s Juliet! She pranced round stage bursting with persona and a voice that might transfer you to tears. Her cheeky efficiency and iconic voice was paying homage to a Disney princess, Sleeping Magnificence maybe.

Becoming, since tenor Lengthy Lengthy performed Romeo as Prince Charming with a touch of Hamlet. His loss of life scene was an actual deal with! I cherished the lethal combat scene between Romeo and Tybalt, which had such power and pleasure; the 2 performed off one another fantastically. The viewers gasped, regardless of each Shakespeare fan already understanding Tybalt was doomed.

My favourite scene of the entire opera was the attractive duet between Juliet and her dagger. This was fairly a saucy present, appropriately, and I cherished each second of it. Sadly this was the final mainstage present of The Dallas Opera season however I for one am counting down the times till the 2024-2025 season kicks off with one among my favorites, La traviata. See you on the opera!
